McCauley posted a 2-3 mark for the Rams this year with a 4.50 ERA. He fanned 28 and walked 10 in 26 innings of action.
“It is great to be with family and friends at this time,” noted McCauley. “I will remember this for the rest of my life. This is something I dreamed about since I was a little kid. I am thankful the Cubs gave me this opportunity.”
"I am extremely happy for Josh," said Shepherd head coach Matt McCarty. "This was a dream of his and things didn't go as planned for him here. Josh had a lot of talent and getting drafted says a lot about his skills. This is a huge stepping stone for Josh and Shepherd baseball. Having players drafted in back-to-back seasons says a lot about the the talent being brought to Shepherd. We wish Josh well moving forward!"
McCauley joins Nathan Minnich '12 (an eighth round pick of the Boston Red Sox in 2012) as the only Shepherd baseball players to be selected in the draft after playing for the Rams.
