SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University handed West Liberty a 3-0 defeat in WVIAC volleyball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday. The Rams recorded a 25-15, 25-15, 25-20 victory.

Junior outside hitter Melani Lewis (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood) had 15 kills and six digs with a .500 attack percentage, while senior outside hitter/libero Kasey Mercier (Baltimore, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) contributed nine kills and six digs with a .474 attack percentage to pace the Rams.

Senior setter Sara Michael (Winchester, VA/James Wood/Hagerstown CC) contributed 37 assists and 15 digs, while sophomore right side Valerie Bour (Willoughby Hills, OH/Willoughby South) added six kills, 10 digs, and three blocks.

Michaela Hawkins had seven kills and Rachel Zeigler added six to lead West Liberty.

Shepherd improves to 7-16, 3-7 in WVIAC play, while West Liberty falls to 13-12, 4-6. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Wilmington (DE) for a 7 p.m. match.
