VIENNA, W.Va. – Junior forward Morgan Gabriel (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Holy Spirit) scored the game’s only goal on an assist from sophomore midfielder Kasey Canterbury (Berryville, VA/Clarke County) at the 19:07 mark to lift Shepherd University to a 1-0 win over Ohio Valley in WVIAC women’s soccer action at Ohio Valley on Thursday. The win lifted Shepherd into fourth place in the final WVIAC regular season standings as the Rams will host fifth-seeded University of Charleston on Monday at a yet to be determined time and site.
Shepherd has four consecutive wins heading into tournament play.
Shepherd had a 17-7 advantage in shots and a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.
Junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Wise (Newark, DE/Caravel Academy) had three saves in a shutout effort for the Rams, while Brianna Rice had 10 saves for the Fighting Scots.
Shepherd improves to 7-7-3, 5-3-2, while Ohio Valley completes its season at 2-16-0, 1-10-0.
