SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior forward Morgan Gabriel (Egg Harbor City, NJ/Holy Spirit) scored a pair of goals to lead Shepherd University to a 6-0 victory over Chowan in women's soccer action at Shepherd on Tuesday.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead when Gabriel scored with an assist from sophomore defender Kelsey N. Smith (Hagerstown, MD/North Hagerstown) at the 0:39 mark.
Smith added an unassisted goal at the 12:06 mark and sophomore midfielder Lexi Vondrak (Harrisonburg, VA/Harrisonburg) scored an unassisted goal at the 41:10 mark to give the Rams a 3-0 lead at halftime.
Shepherd added three second half goals to seal the victory.
Gabriel scored on a feed from freshman forward Kylie Duffin (Ventor, NJ/Holy Spirit) at the 49:13 mark, Duffin scored on an assist from Vondrak at the 69:52 mark, and freshman midfielder Nicole Turner (Calabash, NC/West Brunswick) notched an unassisted goal at the 74:38 mark.
Shepherd had a 42-6 advantage in shots and a 14-0 edge in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Tessa Jones (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder) (2 saves) and junior goalkeeper Elizabeth Wise (Newark, DE/Caravel Academy) (3 saves) combined for a shutout effort for the Rams, while Jennifer Harvell had 14 saves for the Hawks.
Shepherd improves to 6-7-3, while Chowan falls to 2-14-0. The Rams return to action on Thursday when they travel to Ohio Valley for a 12:30 p.m. contest.
