SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Senior forward Shane Lowery (Boonsboro, MD/Boonsboro) scored three goals to lead Shepherd University to a 3-0 win over Pitt-Johnstown in WVIAC men's soccer action at Shepherd on Sunday.
The Rams took a 1-0 lead at the 27:22 mark when Lowery scored on a feed from junior midfielder Griffin Frazier (Prince Frederick, MD/Calvert).
Lowery added a pair of second half goals in a span of less than three minutes.
He scored off a corner kick from junior midfielder Abel Setegn (Arakilo, Ethiopia/Winston Churchill {MD}) at the 70:40 mark and later got an assist from Setegn at the 73:09 mark to complete his hat trick.
Shepherd had a 21-11 advantage in shots and a 5-1 edge in corner kicks.
Freshman goalkeeper Alex Aleshire (Hagerstown, MD/Willliamsport) recorded five saves in the shutout for the Rams. Eddie Stover (3) and Tim Ofman (1) teamed to post four saves for the Mountain Cats.
Shepherd improves to 6-8-1, 4-4-0 in conference play, while Pitt-Johnstown falls to 1-13-1, 1-6-1. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host Chowan for a 3 p.m. non-conference contest.
