CALIFORNIA, Pa. – Shepherd University dropped a 3-1 decision to #20 California University of Pennsylvania in women's soccer action at California on Monday.
Cal took a 1-0 lead when Stephanie Thompson scored on a header off a feed from Erin Hogan at the 8:00 mark.
Hogan scored at the 47:01 mark to give the Vulcans a 2-0 lead. Cal took a 3-0 advantage minutes later when Chelsea Crockett scored on a pass from Janelle McCann.
Sophomore forward Taylor Amsley (Saint Thomas, PA/James Buchanan) scored for the Rams on a pass from sophomore defender Danielle Roos (Frederick, MD/Tuscarora/Austin Peay) at the 71:35 mark.
California (Pa.) had a 37-5 edge in shots and an 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior Tessa Jones (Gaithersburg, MD/Magruder) (3) and junior Elizabeth Wise (Newark, DE/Caravel Academy) (6) combined for nine saves for the Rams, while Kristin Baierbach did not record a save for the Vulcans.
Shepherd falls to 1-4-1, while California (Pa.) improves to 6-2. The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Wheeling Jesuit for a 5 p.m. contest.
