GREENSBURG, Pa. – Senior quarterback Bobby Cooper (Davidsonville, MD/South River) completed 24-of-28 passes for 286 yards and four touchdowns to lead Shepherd University to a 42-6 win over Seton Hill in WVIAC football action at Offutt Field on Saturday.
Shepherd took a 7-0 lead with 10:12 left in the first quarter when Cooper teamed with senior wide receiver Larry Lowe (Stafford, VA/ Brooke Point)on a 12-yard touchdown pass . Redshirt-freshman kicker Ryan Earls (Stevensville, MD/Kent Island) added the extra point.
Shepherd extended its lead to 14-0 when Cooper teamed with freshman wide receiver Billy Brown (Gaithersburg, MD/Gaithersburg) on a 76-yard scoring play lead with 2:42 left in the first quarter.
The Rams took a 21-0 advantage when sophomore linebacker Nick Pugh (Damascus, MD/Damascus) forced a fumble and senior outside linebacker Dominic Tolson (Forestville, MD/Central/St. Pauls) returned it 42 yards for a score with 12:29 left in the second quarter.
Cooper teamed with senior tight end John Frick (Greencastle, PA/Greencastle-Antrim) on a seven-yard scoring pass with 7:05 left in the second quarter to take a 28-0 lead.
Seton Hill cut the lead to 28-6 when Ryan Morris connected with Lance Williams on a 29-yard scoring play with 4:43 left in the second quarter.
Junior running back Jihad Rasheed (Detroit, MI/Southeastern/Michigan) scored on a five-yard run with 9:57 left in the third quarter to up the Shepherd lead to 35-7.
Cooper teamed with Lowe on a 14-yard scoring strike with 17 seconds left in the third quarter to complete the scoring.
Rasheed had 10 carries for 57 yards to lead the Rams.
Morris completed 29-of-46 passes for 227 yards for Seton Hill.
Lowe had eight receptions for 90 yards and a pair of scores to lead Shepherd receivers. DJ Carter had seven catches for 60 yards for the Griffins.
Shepherd had 461 yards of total offense, while limiting Seton Hill to 193 offensive yards. The Griffins had -38 yards rushing.
Junior linebacker Dominique Dixon (Westover, WV/University) had seven tackles to lead the Rams. Josh Falatovich had a game-high 13 tackles for the Griffins.
Shepherd improves to 2-1, 1-0 in WVIAC play, while Seton Hill falls to 0-3, 0-1. The Rams return to action next Saturday when they travel to Charleston for a 1 p.m. contest.
