CLARION, Pa. – Shepherd University split a pair of matches at the Tony Banner Memorial Invitational at Clarion University in volleyball action on Saturday. Shepherd handed American International a 3-1 (25-22, 23-25, 25-19, 25-20) setback, while Roberts Wesleyan slipped past the Rams, 3-2 (21-25, 15-25, 25-22, 25-14,12-15), in a later match.
Senior outsidehitter/libero Kasey Mercier (Baltimore, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) had 13 kills, 15 assists, and five aces to lead the Rams over American International. Senior outside hitter/right side Lauren Gardner (Clarkston, MI/Clarkston) added 10 kills and 15 digs, while senior setter Sara Michael (Winchester, VA/James Wood/Hagerstown CC) had 39 assists, 11 digs, and four blocks.
Junior outside hitter Kayla Walker (Palmyra, VA/Fluvanna County) recorded 18 kills and 16 digs against Roberts Wesleyan. Sophomore right side Valerie Bour (Willoghby Hills, OH/Willoughby South) added 12 kills and five blocks, while sophomore middle hitter Kayla Motheral (Sterling, VA/Potomac Falls) posted 11 kills and seven blocks.
Michael had 48 assists 10 digs, and six blocks.
Shepherd moves to 4-4 on the year. The Rams return to action on Friday when they host Slippery Rock on Friday at 8 p.m. in first day action of the WVIAC-PSAC Crossover at the Butcher Center.
