FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Shepherd University split a pair of matches at the Falcon Fest tournament at Fairmont State on Saturday. The Rams took a 25-19, 25-13, 25-15 win over Ursuline in an early match and later dropped a 25-13, 25-11, 25-20 decision to Point Park.
Junior outside hitter Kayla Walker (Palmyra, VA/Fluvanna County) had 12 kills and six digs to lead the Rams over Ursuline. Sophomore middle hitter Kayla Motheral (Sterling, VA/Potomac Falls) added eight kills, while sophomore outside hitter Lauren Wilkins (Winchester, VA/Sherando) had 16 digs and Sophomore right side Valerie Bour (Willoughby Hills, OH/Willoughby South) added 12. Senior setter Sara Michael (Winchester, VA/James Wood/Hagerstown CC) contributed 27 assists.
Alex Leister had eight kills and seven digs to lead Ursuline.
Michael had 14 assists, eight digs, and two aces to pace the Rams against Point Park. Senior outside hitter/libero Kasey Mercier (Baltimore, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) added six kills and 12 digs, while sophomore setter Taylor Belella (Smithsburg, MD/Smithsburg) also contributed 12 digs.
Lindsey Oberacker had nine kills and 10 digs for Point Park.
Shepherd moves to 3-1 on the year. The Rams return to action on Friday when they face Clarion at 12:30 p.m. and Slippery Rock at 5:30 p.m. at the Clarion University Tournament.
