VIENNA, W.Va. – Shepherd University was eliminated at the WVIAC Softball Tournament in Vienna on Thursday. The Rams dropped a 7-5 game to Fairmont State in an early game and later fell in a 3-0 decision to Ohio Valley.
After Fairmont State took a 3-0 lead in the first inning, Shepherd answered back with four runs in the second. Senior second baseman Delaney Bell (Glen Burnie, MD/Archbishop Spalding) had a two-run single, while senior third baseman Chelsie Oals (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville) had an RBI-double and junior outfielder Bianca Biondillo (Canfield, OH/Canfield) smacked an RBI-triple to highlight the rally.
Fairmont rallied with single runs in the third and the fifth to take a 5-4 lead and later gained a 7-4 lead in the top of the seventh behind a two-run single by Chelsea Cobb.
Shepherd plated a run in the bottom of the seventh when Oals doubled and later scored on a single by Biondillo.
Oals and Biondillo each had a pair of hits for the Rams.
Brittany Tallhamer went 4-for-4 to lead the Falcons.
Junior pitcher Tricia Bettura (Canfield, OH/Canfield) took the loss for the Rams to fall to 13-14. Cobb gained the win for the Falcons.
Raegan Turner limited the Rams to just four hits as Ohio Valley posted a 3-0 victory in the later contest.
Oals went 2-for-3 to pace the Rams.
Junior pitcher Tiffany Biggs (Harpers Ferry, WV/Jefferson/Potomac State) took the loss to fall to 16-9.
Shepherd completes its season at 31-24.
