SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Junior pitcher Tiffany Biggs (Harpers Ferry, WV/Jefferson/Potomac State) tossed a complete game shutout in the nightcap to lead Shepherd University to a 4-0 win over Seton Hill in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at Shepherd on Friday. The Griffins rallied for a 2-1 win in game one.
Shepherd took a 3-0 lead in the first inning in the nightcap behind a two-run triple from sophomore outfielder Jess Mason (Martinsburg, WV/Hedgesville) and an RBI from shortstop Taylor Bolton (Inwood, WV/Martinsburg).
The Rams added a run in the sixth when junior outfielder Bianca Biondillo (Canfield, OH/Canfield) led off with a single and came home on a three-base error.
Liz Piekut, Lisa Kaczynski, and Amanda Arnold each had a pair of hits for the Griffins.
Biggs (16-8) scattered eight hits, while fanning three and walking none. Christine Henderson (11-16) took the loss for Seton Hill.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in game one in game one in the first inning when senior second baseman Delaney Bell (Glen Burnie, MD/Archbishop Spalding) doubled down the left field line and later scored on a double by freshman outfielder Tayler Schaefer (Dunkirk, MD/Northern).
The lead held until the top of the seventh when Seton Hill plated a pair of runs behind an infield error and an RBI-single by Taylor Marchozzi to rally for the win.
Biggs took the loss, while Danielle Treaster (7-9) picked up the win. Henderson worked the seventh inning to gain the save.
Shepherd moves to 31-22, 18-8 in WVIAC action, while Seton Hill is now 18-27, 13-13. The Rams complete regular season play and await word on seeding for next week’s WVIAC Tournament.
