SHEPHERD WOMEN'S LACROSSE FALLS TO SLIPPERY ROCK (4-15-2012)
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Slippery Rock handed Shepherd University a 22-13 setback in women’s lacrosse action at Ram Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
Holly Webb tallied four goals, while Amy Halls, Morgan Pettit, Emma VanDenburg, and Casey Quinn each had three to lead The Rock. Lauren Laubach added a goal and a game-high four assists.
Slippery Rock opened the game on a 11-2 run and had a 17-6 advantage at halftime.
Freshman netminder Lily Schmulowitz (Baltimore, MD/Catonsville) recorded 11 saves for the Rams, while Natalie Crenshaw (3) and Elizabeth Byrne (2) combined for five saves for Slippery Rock.
Slippery Rock had a 41-24 advantage in shots with a 26-18 edge in ground balls. The Rock held a 25-11 advantage in draw controls.
Shepherd falls to 10-4 on the season, while Slippery Rock improves to 8-4. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Notre Dame of Ohio for a 4 p.m. contest in the season finale.
Notes: Nicole Ruane set a new Shepherd season record for goals with 59, breaking the old mark of 56 set by Shannon Carta in 2011. Ruane now has 150 goals for her career. She also tied the Shepherd season record for most points with 73 (Christina Ferrara, 2011).
