SHEPHERD SOFTBALL DROPS PAIR TO LOCK HAVEN (4-9-2012)
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Shepherd University dropped a pair of games to Lock Haven in softball doubleheader action at Shepherd on Monday. Lock Haven recorded a 3-0 win in game one and added a 4-2 victory in the nightcap.
 
Lock Haven took a 2-0 lead in the fifth inning in game one.  Erin Clary walked and later scored on an error. Alyssa Smith singled and later scored on a single by Nikki Weaknecht.
 
The Lady Eagles added a run in the seventh on a bases-loaded walk by Nicole Smith.
Junior pitcher Tricia Bettura (Canfield, OH/Canfield) (7.0 IP, 8 H, 2 ER, 3 Ks, 4 BB) took the loss for the Rams to fall to 11-11. Sarah Morse picked up the win for the Lady Eagles. 
Lock Haven took a 2-0 lead in the third inning of the nightcap on a two-run homer by Smith.
The Lady Lions increased their lead to 4-0 behind a two-run blast by Weaknecht in the fifth.
The Rams got on the board in the bottom of the fifth on a solo homer by freshman shortstop Taylor Bolton (Inwood, WV/Martinsburg).
Shepherd added a run in the sixth.  Sophomore outfielderJess Mason (Martinsburg, WV/Hedgesville) singled and raced to third on an outfield error. She later scored on a single off the bat of freshman outfielder Tayler Schaefer (Dunkirk, MD/Northern).
Schaefer had a pair of hits to pace the Rams.
 
Junior pitcher Tiffany Biggs (Harpers Ferry, WV/Jefferson/Potomac State) (7.0 IP, 5 H, 4 ER, 3 Ks, 2 BB) took the loss to drop to 13-5. Smith picked up the win to improve to 8-4.
 
Shepherd falls to 26-17, while Lock Haven improves to 17-14. The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Fairmont State at 3 p.m.
