WEST LIBERTY, W.Va. – Senior third baseman Travis Sluger (Germantown, MD/Williamsport/Hagerstown CC) went 4-for-5 with five runs scored and five RBIs and senior designated hitter Nash Hutter (Sunland, CA/Verdugo Hills/Glendale CC) added a 3-for-6 effort with four RBIs and a pair of runs scored to lead Shepherd University to a 19-3 win over West Liberty in WVIAC baseball action at Kovalick Field on Saturday. The Rams took advantage of 17 hits and six West Liberty errors in the win.
Holding a 2-0 lead, Shepherd scored eight runs in the fourth inning to take control of the game. A three-run homer by Sluger and solo homer and three-run double by Hutter keyed the scoring outburst.
Junior outfielder Jake Cook (Centreville, MD/Queen Anne’s) went 3-for-6 with three runs scored, while
sophomore outfielder Michael Lott (Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge) went 3-for-5 with a pair of runs scored and two RBIs.
Sophomore outfielder Aaron Scoville (Centreville, VA/Westfield) added a 1-for-3 outing and drove in three runs.
Scott Castilow went 3-for-4 and Taylor Snare belted a solo blast to lead West Liberty.
Sophomore pitcher Paul Hvozdovic (Herndon, VA/Herndon) (5.0 IP, 3 H, 7 Ks, 0 BB, 1 0 R) picked up the win to improve to 8-2. West Liberty starter Brandon Polanski took the loss.
Shepherd improves to 22-11, 14-4 in WVIAC play, while West Liberty falls to 6-19, 4-12. The Rams return to action on Tuesday when they host Ohio Valley for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
