GLENVILLE, W.Va. – Shepherd University had 27 hits on the day en route to a sweep of Glenville State in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at Glenville on Tuesday afternoon. Shepherd earned a 4-0 win in game one and added a 7-0 victory in the nightcap.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the first inning in game one when junior outfielder Bianca Biondillo (Canfield, OH/Canfield) was hit-by-pitch and later scored on a single off the bat of freshman designated player Savannah Snyder (Elkton, MD/Padua Academy).
The Rams added a pair of runs in the fifth on RBI-singles by senior second baseman Delaney Bell (Glen Burnie, MD/Archbishop Spalding) and sophomore first baseman Sam McQuade (McConnellsburg, PA/McConnellsburg).
Bell added a run-scoring single in the seventh to complete the scoring.
McQuade and Bell each had three hits for the Rams.
Junior pitcher Tricia Bettura (Canfield, OH/Canfield) (7.0 IP, 6 Ks, 1 BB) tossed a two-hitter for the Rams to improve to 9-10. Brittany May took the loss for the Pioneers.
McQuade went 3-for-4 with a three-run homer to lead the Rams in the nightcap.
Biondillo added a 2-for-3 effort with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, while sophomore outfielder Jess Mason (Martinsburg, WV/Hedgesville) and senior third baseman Chelsie Oals (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville) each contributed a pair of hits.
Junior pitcher Tiffany Biggs (Harpers Ferry, WV/Jefferson/Potomac State) (7.0 IP, 10 H, 7 Ks, 0 BB) gained the victory for the Rams to improve to 11-4. Megan Lesser took the loss for the Pioneers.
Shepherd improves to 22-15, 9-3 in WVIAC action, while Glenville State is now 10-20, 5-5. The Rams return to action on Friday when they travel to Concord for a 3 p.m. doubleheader.
