SHEPHERD BASEBALL KNOCKS OFF # 13 SETON HILL (3-18-2012)
GREENSBURG, Pa. –
Shepherd University plated three runs in the top of the 10th inning to take a 5-2 victory over # 13 Seton Hill in WVIAC baseball action at Seton Hill on Sunday.
(Woodbridge, VA/Woodbridge) led off the 10th with a walk and Sophomore outfielder Aaron Scoville (Centreville, VA/Westfield) followed with a bunt single. After senior first baseman Nathan Minnich (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro Area Sr.) reached on a fielder’s choice, junior catcher
(North Olmsted, OH/North Olmsted) scored Lott on a sacrifice fly. Sophomore designated hitter
(St. James, NY/Smithtown East) singled to score Minnich and sophomore second baseman
(Manassas, VA/Osbourn) followed with a single to score Scoville.
Shepherd took a 1-0 lead in the fourth when Minnich led off with a double and scored on a double off the bat of Murphy
Nicholas Sell hit a solo homer in the bottom of the fourth fo rthe Griffins to tie the game at 1-1.
The Rams took a 2-1 lead in the eighth as Lott was hit-by-pitch and later scored on a single by Messina.
Brendan Costantino singled and later scored on an error in the bottom of the eighth for Seton Hill to tie the game.
Minnich, Murphy, and Messina each had a pair of hits for the Rams.
(Herndon, VA/Herndon) (9.0 IP, 8 Ks, 1 BB, 1 ER) picked up the win to improve to 4-2. Senior reliever Andrew Gallant (Oak Ridge, NJ/Jefferson Township) tossed hitless ball in the 10
to pick up his fifth save of the year. Clint White (2-1) (2.1 IP, 0K 2 BB, 3 ER) took the loss for the Griffins.
Shepherd improves to 11-9, 4-3 in WVIAC action, while Seton Hill drops to 15-4, 8-1.
