SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Nick Novak scored 25 points and Jordan Miller added 21 to lead Pitt-Johnstown to an 89-77 win over Shepherd University in WVIAC men’s basketball action at the Butcher Center on Wednesday night.
The Mountain Cats also got 14 points and a game-high eight rebounds from Patrick Grubbs.
Junior forward Chad Moore (Winchester, VA/John Handley) scored a game-high 26 points and grabbed six rebounds to lead the Rams.
Junior forward Sidney McCray (Milton, FL/St. Pauls (MD) School)added 12 points and six assists, while sophomore guard Brantley Osborne (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) added 11 points.
Freshman center Chauncey Burgazli (Williamsburg, VA/Bruton) added eight points and six rebounds off the bench.
The Mountain Cats took a 42-31 into halftime behind 10 points each from Novak and Miller.
Hsepherd trimmed the UPJ lead to eight points several times in the second half, but would get no closer.
Shepherd hit on 35.3 percent (24-68) of its shots from the floor with a 34.5 percent (10-29) effort from three-point range. The Rams hit 19-of-23 foul shots (82.6 percent).
Pitt-Johnstown shot a red-hot 67.3 percent (33-49) from the floor with a 70 percent (7-10) performance from beyond the arc. The Mountain Cats connected on 16-of-23 foul shots (69.6 percent).
The Mountain Cats had a 35-29 advantage on the boards.
Shepherd falls to 12-12, 10-10 in WVIAC action, while Pitt-Johnstown improves to 13-11, 11-8. The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to Ohio Valley for a 4 p.m. contest.
