FAIRMONT STATE DOWNS SHEPHERD MEN, 80-66 (1-18-2012)
FAIRMONT, W.Va. – Junior forward Chad Moore (Winchester, VA/John Handley) recorded game-highs of 27 points and 15 rebounds, but Fairmont State gained an 80-66 win over Shepherd University in WVIAC men’s basketball action at Fairmont State on Wednesday night.
Moore was 12-of-19 from the floor with a 3-of-7 effort from the line.
Steve Custis had 24 points to pace the Falcons. Chris Thompson added 21 points, while Isaac Thornton tossed in 14.
Fairmont State hit on 46.8 percent (29-62) of its shots from the floor with a 26.3 percent (5-19) effort from three-point range. The Falcons hit on 17-of-22 free throws (77.3 percent).
Shepherd shot 45.8 percent (27-59) from the floor with a 26.3 percent (6-22) performance from beyond the arc. Shepherd connected on 6-of-15 foul shots (40 percent).
The Rams had a 42-30 rebounding edge.
Shepherd falls to 8-8, 6-6 in WVIAC action, while Fairmont State improves to 6-8, 4-6. The Rams return to action on January 26 when they host Charleston for an 8 p.m. contest.
