CHARLESTON HOLDS OFF SHEPHERD MEN, 70-66 (1-15-2011)
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – James Eversley scored 14 of his game-high 20 points in the second half to lead University of Charleston to a 70-66 win over Shepherd University in WVIAC men’s basketball action at Shepherd on Saturday.
Ibrahim Marone added 16 points and seven boards for the Golden Eagles.
Sophomore forward Chad Moore (Winchester, VA/John Handley ) scored 16 points and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds to pace the Rams. Moore also had a game-high three assists.
Senior guard Jonathan Motichka (Chambersburg, PA/Chambersburg) added 14 points and senior forward Dave Karlson (Cameroon, Africa/Montgomery-Germantown) tossed in 12. Redshirt-freshman guard Brantley Osborne (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) contributed eight points and a game-high four assists.
Shepherd rallied from an 11-point second half deficit to tie the game at 64-64 on a pair of Karlson free throws with 2:32 to play, but Charleston hit 4-of-6 free throws down the stretch to seal the win.
Charleston shot 50 percent (25-50) from the floor, while Shepherd posted a 41.2 percent (21-51) effort. The Golden Eagles had a 38-24 rebounding advantage.
The game was tied 34-34 at halftime.
Shepherd falls to 6-9 overall, 3-8 in WVIAC action, while Charleston improves to 6-8, 4-6. The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they host Fairmont State at 8 p.m.
