SHEPHERD MEN KNOCK OFF SETON HILL, 86-71 (1-28-2010)

GREENSBURG, Pa. – Senior guard Tyrone Roach (Capitol Heights, MD/Montgomery-Germantown) scored a game-high 28 points to lead Shepherd University to an 86-71 win over Seton Hill in WVIAC men’s basketball action at Seton Hill on Thursday night. The Rams extended their win streak to three games with the convincing victory.

Roach connected on 8-of-14 shots from the floor with a 3-of-7 outing from beyond the arc. He was 9-of-10 from the foul line.

Freshman forward Chad Moore (Winchester, VA/John Handley) recorded his seventh double-double of the year with 17 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Derek Gallagher (Moon Township, PA/Moon Area) contributed 11 points, six assists, and four rebounds.

Shepherd (4-12, 4-7) also got 14 points and eight boards from junior forward Dave Karlson (Cameroon, Africa/Montgomery-Germantown) and 12 points and five assists from freshman guard Aeron Spencer (Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford).

Chris Giles had 24 points and Justin McCoy added 13 for Seton Hill (7-9, 5-6).

Shepherd shot 48.4 percent (30-62) from the floor, 38.9 percent (7-18) from three-point range, and 65.5 percent (19-29) from the foul line. Seton Hill shot 49.1 percent (28-57) from the floor, 37.5 percent (3-8) from beyond the arc, and 60 percent (12-20) from the charity stripe. The Rams had a 41-30 edge in rebounds, while both teams had 12 turnovers.

Shepherd had a 42-31 lead at the break.

The Rams return to action on Saturday when they travel to West Virginia Wesleyan for a 4 p.m. contest.
