SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Jasmine Gunn scored a game-high 25 points to lead Tusculum to a 90-76 win over Shepherd University in women’s basketball action at Shepherd on Sunday afternoon.
Tusculum (6-1) also got 18 points from Kendall Baxter on six three-pointers. Kat Spears added 16 points and tied Gunn for team-high rebounding honors with seven boards.
Senior center Camille Wilmer (Leesburg, VA/ Loudoun County) and sophomore forward Shelby Fayak (Willowick, OH/Eastlake North) led the Rams (3-4) with 17 points each. Wilmer added nine rebounds and five assists.
Junior guard Carrie Saunders (Richmond, VA/Monacan) contributed 15 points and seven boards, while junior guard Jerica Hewett (Keedysville, MD/Boonsboro) chipped in with nine points, five assists, five steals, and four rebounds.
Gunn had 16 first half points to help the Pioneers take a 45-38 lead into intermission.
Shepherd rallied to within seven points in the second half at 58-51 after a jumper by freshman guard Alex Tamez (Berkeley Springs, WV/The Miller (VA) School) with 13:20 remaining, but Tusculum went on a 20-8 run to pull away.
Tusculum shot 49.3 percent (33-67) from the floor for the game, while Shepherd hit on 36.1 percent (26-72) of its shots. The Pioneers had a 47-39 rebounding edge
The Rams are idle until January 7 when they travel to Charleston for a 6 p.m. conference matchup.
