WHEELING JESUIT HOLDS OFF SHEPHERD MEN. 60-57 (12-1-2009)
SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Andre Harris scored a game-high 17 points to lead Wheeling Jesuit to a 60-57 win over Shepherd University in WVIAC men’s basketball action at the Butcher Center on Tuesday evening.
Recardo Gaddy added 12 points and Obi Ukwuoma had 10 points and six boards for the Cardinals.
Senior guard Tyrone Roach (Capitol Heights, MD/Montgomery-Germantown) led the Rams with 15 points.
Junior forward Dave Karlson (Cameroon, Africa/Montgomery-Germantown) added a double-double with 14 points and a game-high 11 boards. Freshman forward Chad Moore (Winchester, VA/John Handley) contributed 12 points and six rebounds.
A tight game throughout, Shepherd raillied to within two points at 59-57 on a three-pointer by Roach with 53 seconds left.
A steal and free throw by Harris with 17 seconds left capped the win for the Cardinals.
Wheeling Jesuit (3-1, 2-0) shot 48 percent (24-50) from the floor for the game, while Shepherd (0-4, 0-2) posted a 43.8 percent (21-48) shooting performance. The Cardinals had a 32-31 rebounding edge.
The Rams return to action on Saturday when they host Ohio Valley at 2 p.m. for Take a Kid to the Game Day.
