SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. – Freshman forward Chad Moore (Winchester, VA/John Handley) recorded game-highs of 22 points and 14 rebounds, but West Liberty handed Shepherd University a 107-76 setback in WVIAC men’s basketball action at West Liberty on Tuesday evening.
Moore connected on 9-of-14 shots from the floor and was 4-for-8 from the foul line.
The Rams got 16 points from senior guard Tyrone Roach (Capitol Heights, MD/Montgomery-Germantown). Junior forward Dave Karlson (Cameroon, Africa/Montgomery-Germantown) added a double-double with 13 points and 11 boards, freshman guard Aeron Spencer (Fredericksburg, VA/Stafford) tossed in 10 points, while senior guard Derek Gallagher (Moon Township, PA/Moon Area) had eight points and 11 rebounds.
All five West Liberty starters hit in double digits. Corey Pelle fired in a team-high 21 points and Mike Mathey had 18 points, seven assists, and six boards to lead the Toppers.
West Liberty (4-0, 1-0) shot 49.4 percent (38-77) from the floor for the game, while limiting Shepherd to a 37.5 percent (24-64) shooting performance. Shepherd (0-3, 0-1) outrebounded the Toppers, 51-35.
The Rams return to action next Tuesday when they host Wheeling Jesuit for an 8 p.m. contest.
