SIX RAMS EARN NCBWA ALL-REGION HONORS (5-26-2009)

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Six members of the Shepherd University baseball team were named to the 2009 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II All-Atlantic Region Team. Junior reliever Kenny Reisinger (Ickesburg, PA/West Perry) was a first team selection, junior third baseman Brian Collins (Martinsburg, WV/Jefferson/Frederick CC) and junior outfielder Tyler Beard (Hagerstown, MD/Williamsport/Hagerstown CC) were named to the second team, while junior pitcher Patrick Smith (Ashville, PA/North County {MD}), junior catcher Anthony Jackson (Belcamp, MD/Aberdeen/Anne Arundel CC), and senior designated hitter Brett Caplan (Marriottsville, MD/Liberty) were honorable mention choices.

Reisinger, who also gained first team All-Region honors from Daktronics and ABCA/Rawlings earlier this month, registered a 4-2 mark with a team-best eight saves and a 2.18 ERA. He struck out 41 and walked only 15 in 57.2 innings. Reisinger also topped the team in appearances (28), relief appearances (27), and games finished (24).

Beard batted .401 with 10 doubles, a triple, and a pair of home runs. He drove in 26 runs and scored a team-best 54. Beard was successful on 7-of-10 stolen base attempts.

Collins recorded a .389 batting average with 16 home runs, two triples, and 17 doubles. He drove in a team-best 53 runs and scored 49. Collins also posted a 3-0 record on the mound with an impressive 1.93 ERA.

Smith recorded a 7-3 mark for the Rams with a 3.96 ERA. He fanned 49 and walked only 12 in 63.2 innings.

Jackson batted .329 with eight doubles. He drove in 30 runs and scored 26. A defensive standout, Jackson recorded a .982 fielding percentage with only four errors in 221 chances.

Caplan batted .343 with 11 doubles and six home runs. He drove in 42 runs and scored 24. Caplan was second on the team in doubles and fourth in hits (59), home runs, and runs batted in.
