SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- Sophomore Krissy Grosselin (Dayton, OH/Ramstein (Germany)) poured in 21 points and classmate Andrea Kauffman (Strasburg, VA/Lewistown (Pa.) Area) added a career-high 18 points to lead Shepherd University to a 90-55 win over Ohio Valley in WVIAC women's basketball action on Saturday at the Butcher Athletic Center.
Grosselin, coming off a career-high 34-point performance against Salem International on Thursday, hit on 8-of-14 field goals, including 2-of-3 from three-point range. Kauffman was 8-of-10 from the floor and also grabbed seven rebounds.
Junior guard Molly Land (Hope, IN/Hauser) tossed 11 points with nine coming from long range. Junior forward Laura Harkins (York, PA/Spring Grove), senior Danielle Costello (Middletown, MD/Middletown/FCC), and junior guard Nylia Zamora (Miami, FL/Barbara Goleman) added eight points apiece. Harkins also added seven rebounds. Junior guard Tiffany Acker (Mount Solon, VA/Buffalo Gap) came off the bench to add four points, five rebounds, and a game-high six assists.
Jayne Davis had 14 points and seven rebounds to lead Ohio Valley. Brittany Brooks added 11 points, while Natasha Holloway had 10 points and seven boards.
Shepherd moved out to a 38-18 halftime lead as Grosselin (15) and Kauffman (12) combined for 27 points. The Rams shot 61.3 percent (19-31) from the floor in the second half to pull away for the victory. Shepherd held Ohio Valley to a 31.7 percent (19-60) field goal effort for the game.
Shepherd improves to 17-10, 11-7 in conference play, while Ohio Valley drops to 9-18, 6-12. The two teams return to action on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. at the Butcher Athletic Center in first round action of the WVIAC Tournament. Tickets are $5.00 for adults and $2.00 for students. Regular season passes will not be honored.
