At trio of Shepherd University football players were named to the 2009 Football Gazette Super Region 1 team. Senior running back Dervon Wallace (Lusby, MD/Calvert) of the Shepherd University football team finished fourth in the balloting for the Harlon Hill Trophy as the 2007 Division II College Football Player of the Year. Chadron State (Neb.) College senior tailback Danny Woodhead claimed the award for the second year in a row. Woodhead, college football's all-time leading rusher, received 175 total points in the voting and held a commanding 53-point margin over the second-place finisher.

Undefeated California (PA) claimed their first NCAA Division II Northeast Region championship with a 58-38 victory against WVIAC champion Shepherd (10-2). The 13-0 Vulcans piled up 535 yards as Daine Williams rushed for 179 and two scores. Windell Brown added 115 yards and three scores on only six rushes.
