Over the weekend the Shepherd University cheerleaders attended a national cheerleading competition at the National Harbor. The squad competed on Saturday and Sunday and won a first place national title in the Elite D2 All-Girl Cheer Division. This is the first time that Shepherd has competed in about 10 years.

The Mountain East Conference (MEC) announced today that its application for membership has been approved by the NCAA Division II Membership Committee. The MEC will officially become the 25th NCAA Division II conference on Sept. 1, 2013 and immediately assumes active status.

The 12 institutions that announced the formation of the Mountain East Conference in August have officially applied for approval to begin competing as the NCAA’s newest Division II conference in 2013-14. The MEC’s formal application, signed by the presidents of all 12 institutions, was hand-delivered to NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis on Friday along with all supporting documentation.

Members of the Shepherd University cheerleading squad participated in a bowling outing with the children of the Shepherd Nursery School at the Game Zone on March 20.

The Shepherd University Office of Advancement and Alumni Relations will be hosting a day of celebrating Shepherd’s Ram-azing athletic accomplishments on Saturday, February 12. An alumni and friends reception will be held at Captain Benders Tavern in Sharpsburg for lunch followed by the Shepherd-West Virginia Wesleyan basketball doubleheader at the Butcher Center.

The Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA) recently announced that 16 Shepherd University student-athletes have been named the 2009-10 recipients of the DII ADA Academic Achievement Awards presented by WeatherPORT.

Twenty-five Shepherd University student-athletes have been selected to the 2009-10 WVIAC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Qualifying student-athletes are classified as a junior or senior and have obtained a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale at the end of the term of attendance in which the sport was concluded.
