SHEPHERD OFFERING SUMMER CAMPS (4-4-2013)

The Shepherd University department of athletics is offering a schedule of low cost sports camps coming up in June and July. Included for girls are volleyball, basketball and softball; boys camps include football, basketball, and baseball plus soccer camps for boys and girls.

BRYAN, MERCIER NAMED WVIAC SENIOR SCHOLAR-ATHLETES (3-7-2013)

Senior forward Justin Bryan (Charles Town, WV/Jefferson) (left) of the men’s basketball team and senior outside hitter/libero Kasey Mercier (Baltimore, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) (right) of the volleyball team have been named WVIAC College Foundation of West Virginia (CFWV) Senior Scholar-Athlete award winners.

SHEPHERD VOLLEYBALL SIGNS THREE (2-18-2013)

Shepherd University head volleyball coach Sarah Smith announced today that three student-athletes have signed letters-of-intent to play volleyball for the Rams next season.

NCAA ADDS MOUNTAIN EAST CONFERENCE AS NEWEST DIVISION II LEAGUE (2-15-2013)

The Mountain East Conference (MEC) announced today that its application for membership has been approved by the NCAA Division II Membership Committee. The MEC will officially become the 25th NCAA Division II conference on Sept. 1, 2013 and immediately assumes active status.

MOUNTAIN EAST CONFERENCE FILES WITH NCAA (12-4-2012)

The 12 institutions that announced the formation of the Mountain East Conference in August have officially applied for approval to begin competing as the NCAA’s newest Division II conference in 2013-14. The MEC’s formal application, signed by the presidents of all 12 institutions, was hand-delivered to NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis on Friday along with all supporting documentation.

SHEPHERD VOLLEYBALL FALLS TO #18 WHEELING JESUIT IN WVIAC QUARTERFINALS (11-15-2012)

Shepherd University dropped a 3-0 decision to #18 Wheeling Jesuit in quarterfinal action of the WVIAC Volleyball Tournament at the University of Charleston on Thursday. The Cardinals earned a 25-13, 25-14, 25-15 victory.

LEWIS, KENNY GAIN ALL-WVIAC HONORS (11-14-2012)

Junior outside hitter Melani Lewis (Bay Shore, NY/Brentwood) (right) and junior middle hitter Meg Kenny (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) of the Shepherd University volleyball team were selected to the 2012 All-WVIAC Volleyball Team as selected by the league’s head coaches. Lewis gained first team honors, while Kenny was a second team selection.

SHEPHERD VOLLEYBALL DOWNS WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN; ADVANCES TO QUARTERFINALS (11-12-2012)

Shepherd University handed West Virginia Wesleyan a 3-0 defeat in first round action of the WVIAC Volleyball Tournament at the Butcher Center on Monday night. The Rams earned a 25-19, 25-17, 25-15 victory for their sixth consecutive win.

Senior outside hitter/libero Kasey Mercier (Baltimore, MD/Mount de Sales Academy) of the Shepherd University volleyball team has been named the WVIAC Volleyball Player of the Week, as announced by the league office.

Shepherd University handed Alderson-Broaddus a 3-0 setback in WVIAC volleyball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday. The Rams earned a 25-14, 25-21, 27-25 victory.

Shepherd University posted a 3-0 win over Davis & Elkins in WVIAC volleyball action at the Butcher Center on Friday night.  The Rams recorded a 25-17, 25-15, 25-13 victory.

SHEPHERD VOLLEYBALL TO HOST SENIOR NIGHT ON FRIDAY (11-4-2012)

The Shepherd University volleyball team will be hosting Senior Night on Friday when they face Davis and Elkins for a 7 p.m. conference matchup at the Butcher Center. Free T-Shirts given out to first 75 students who arrive. The shirts will be given out beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Shepherd University downed Glenville State, 3-0, in WVIAC volleyball action at Glenville State on Saturday. The Rams earned a 25-9, 25-21, 25-14 victory.
 

SHEPHERD VOLLEYBALL KNOCKS OFF WEST VIRGINIA WESLEYAN FOR SECOND STRAIGHT WIN (11-2-2012)

Shepherd University handed West Virginia Wesleyan a 3-1 setback in WVIAC volleyball action at West Virginia Wesleyan on Friday night. The Rams earned a 20-25, 25-29, 25-12, 25-20 victory.

SHEPHERD SPORTS SCHEDULE CHANGES (10-29-2012)

A couple of changes have been made to the Shepherd University athletics schedule this week due to the weather. Volleyball action slated for Tuesday at Wilmington (DE) has been cancelled, while Tuesday’s WVIAC Men’s Soccer Tournament action between Shepherd and Wheeling Jesuit has been postponed until Thursday with a 7 p.m. start at Wheeling Jesuit.

Shepherd University handed West Liberty a 3-0 defeat in WVIAC volleyball action at the Butcher Center on Saturday. The Rams recorded a 25-15, 25-15, 25-20 victory.

Nineteenth-ranked Wheeling Jesuit held off an upset bid by Shepherd University for a 3-2 win in WVIAC volleyball action at the Butcher Center on Friday night. The Cardinals recorded a 25-22, 25-22, 23-25, 23-25, 15-11 victory.

Shippensburg recorded a 3-0 win over Shepherd University in volleyball action at Shippensburg on Saturday. The Lady Raiders posted a 25-17 25-19, 25-22 victory.

Shepherd University dropped a 3-0 decision to Fairmont State in WVIAC volleyball action at Fairmont State on Saturday. The Falcons recorded a 25-20, 25-23, 26-24 victory.

SHEPHERD ATHLETICS SCHEDULE CHANGES (9-21-2012)

A pair of changes have been made to the Shepherd University athletics schedule for this weekend. Tonight's volleyball action slated at West Virginia Wesleyan has been rescheduled for November 2 at 7 p.m. at West Virginia Wesleyan due to transportation issues. Men's and women's tennis action between Chowan and Shepherd at Shepherd on Saturday has been moved up to a 1 p.m. start due to the forecast for inclement weather.

The presidents of twelve universities, nine in West Virginia, two in Ohio, and one in Virginia, jointly announce the formation of a new all-sports collegiate athletic conference to be named the Mountain East Conference.

TWELVE RAMS GAIN D2ADA ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS (8-16-2012)

The Division II Athletics Directors Association (D2ADA) recently announced that 12 Shepherd University student-athletes have been named the 2011-12 recipients of the D2ADA Academic Achievement Awards. The Academic Achievement Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level.

FOURTEEN RAMS NAMED TO WVIAC COMMISSIONER'S HONOR ROLL (6-22-2012)

Fourteen Shepherd University student-athletes have been selected to the 2011-12 WVIAC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Qualifying student-athletes are classified as a junior or senior and have obtained a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale at the end of the term of attendance in which the sport was concluded.

NEW CONFERENCE FORMATION SOUGHT (6-18-2012)

The presidents of eight universities in West Virginia and one in Pennsylvania announced on Monday, June 18, 2012, that they will create a new all-sports athletic conference and seek membership in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

The Shepherd University Women’s Athletic Alliance recently sponsored and hosted a recruiting information session in the Shepherd University Wellness Center on January 28. The session, which was directed to area student athletes in grades 9-12, parents, and coaches, was beneficial in spreading information about specific sports here at Shepherd. It also addressed specific questions about recruiting, financial aid, admissions, and NCAA rules in the recruiting process.

Pitt-Johnstown recorded a 3-2 victory over Shepherd University in WVIAC volleyball action at UPJ on Tuesday night. The Mountain Cats gained a 25-22, 23-25, 25-22, 20-25, 15-13 win over the Rams.

Sophomore middle hitter Meg Kenny (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass) recorded a match-high 16 kills with a .737 attack percentage to lead Shepherd University to a 3-1 victory over West Virginia State in WVIAC volleyball action at the Butcher Center on Friday night. The Rams gained a 17-25, 27-25, 25-13, 25-17 victory.

THREE SHEPHERD TEAMS GOING PINK FOR BREAST CANCER AWARENESS (10-13-2011)

This weekend the Shepherd University volleyball and men’s and women’s soccer teams will be deviating from the school colors to pink to assist in raising awareness of breast cancer and assisting in research funding to combat the disease.

Shepherd University fell in a pair of volleyball matches in final day action at the 2011 Pepsi Bash at the Beach on Saturday. The Rams dropped a 30-28, 23-25, 25-17, 25-18 decision to Carson-Newman and also suffered a 25-21, 25-14, 25-18 setback to Barry.

Shepherd University split a pair of volleyball matches in first day action at the 2011 Pepsi Bash at the Beach on Friday. The Rams dropped a 27-25, 25-20, 25-19 decision to host Palm Beach Atlantic, but rebounded with a 25-10, 25-11, 25-19 win over Johnson C. Smith.

The Shepherd University Athletic Hall of Fame inducted four new members at the annual induction banquet last Friday at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Shepherdstown. Football standout Mark Brower '84, Darren Iden '89 (men’s tennis), and Tara Saville ’95 (volleyball), joined Adam Straskulic '01 (baseball) as the 26th class to be inducted. The "fantastic four" bring the total number of members in the Shepherd Athletic Hall of Fame to 125.

Three members of the Shepherd University volleyball team have been honored for their play at the Marauder Clash last weekend. Sophomore middle hitter Meg Kenny (Lynchburg, VA/E.C. Glass), junior outside hitter Kasey Mercier (Baltimore, MD/Mount de Sales Academy), and senior setter Lauren Jeschelnik (Huntingtown, MD/Huntingtown) were named to the Marauder Clash All-Tournament team.

HALL OF FAME TICKETS ON SALE (9-6-2011)

Tickets are on sale for the Shepherd University Athletic Hall of Fame banquet. Four new members will be inducted at the banquet on Friday, September 16 at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Shepherdstown. The quartet will also be honored at the Shepherd-Seton Hill football game on Saturday, September 17 as part of Hall of Fame Weekend festivities.

Twenty-five Shepherd University WVIAC student-athletes have been selected to the 2010-11 Commissioner's Honor Roll. Qualifying student-athletes are classified as a junior or senior and have obtained a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale at the end of the term of attendance in which the sport was concluded.

The Shepherd University volleyball team ran its winning streak to six matches with wins over Alderson-Broaddus and Millersville at the Butcher Center on Saturday. The Rams handed Alderson-Broaddus a 17-25, 21-25, 25-20, 25-13, 15-11 setback in the morning and added a 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-16 win over Millersville in the afternoon. Alderson-Broaddus recorded a 25-13, 21-25, 25-23, 17-25, 15-11 win over Millersville in the third match of the day.
