The Shepherd University department of athletics is offering a schedule of low cost sports camps coming up in June and July. Included for girls are volleyball, basketball and softball; boys camps include football, basketball, and baseball plus soccer camps for boys and girls.

Former Shepherd University women's basketball player Hannah Safren '12 will be hosting a book signing on April 9 from 12-2 p.m. and 6-8 p.m at the Shepherd University Wellness Center. Safren will be on hand to promote her book: Dive: the life and fight of Reba Tutt.

The 2012-13 basketball regular season has come to an end and Shepherd is now into first round conference tournament play. The teams successes this season include the men’s team finishing sixth in the conference with a 15-11 overall mark and the women finishing seventh in the conference with a 13-13 overall record. Both teams went 12-10 in the final season of the WVIAC.

The Mountain East Conference (MEC) announced today that its application for membership has been approved by the NCAA Division II Membership Committee. The MEC will officially become the 25th NCAA Division II conference on Sept. 1, 2013 and immediately assumes active status.

SHEPHERDSTOWN, W.Va. -- The Shepherd University men's and women's basketball programs will be hosting a free clinic on Sunday, December 16 from 1-4 p.m. at the Butcher Athletic Center. The clinic is open to all kids from kindergarten-grade 8. Donations are being accepted by the Shepherd University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee to support the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The 12 institutions that announced the formation of the Mountain East Conference in August have officially applied for approval to begin competing as the NCAA’s newest Division II conference in 2013-14. The MEC’s formal application, signed by the presidents of all 12 institutions, was hand-delivered to NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis on Friday along with all supporting documentation.

Football standout Joe Reel ’72, Vic Holmes ’74 (men’s basketball, baseball), Greg Stup ’96 (football), joined women’s basketball coach Jodie Runner as the 27th class to be inducted. The "fabulous four" bring the total number of members in the Shepherd Athletic Hall of Fame to 129.

The Division II Athletics Directors Association (D2ADA) recently announced that 12 Shepherd University student-athletes have been named the 2011-12 recipients of the D2ADA Academic Achievement Awards. The Academic Achievement Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level.

Fourteen Shepherd University student-athletes have been selected to the 2011-12 WVIAC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Qualifying student-athletes are classified as a junior or senior and have obtained a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale at the end of the term of attendance in which the sport was concluded.

The presidents of eight universities in West Virginia and one in Pennsylvania announced on Monday, June 18, 2012, that they will create a new all-sports athletic conference and seek membership in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

The Shepherd University basketball teams will be hosting Senior Night and Fan Appreciation Day on their final regular season home doubleheader on Wednesday night. The women's team will host Pitt-Johnstown at 6 p.m. and the men's team will face Pitt-Johnstown at 8 p.m. The women will honor five seniors prior to tip-off, while Fan Appreciation Day will celebrated during both contests.

Harley "Skeeter" Swift will be coming to speak at Shepherd University at the Erma Ora Byrd Lecture Hall on February 14 at 5 p.m. Swift was an All-American basketball player and Hall of Famer at East Tennessee State and went to play many seasons in the ABA. The event is open to the public and admission is free.

The Shepherd University Women’s Athletic Alliance recently sponsored and hosted a recruiting information session in the Shepherd University Wellness Center on January 28. The session, which was directed to area student athletes in grades 9-12, parents, and coaches, was beneficial in spreading information about specific sports here at Shepherd. It also addressed specific questions about recruiting, financial aid, admissions, and NCAA rules in the recruiting process.

Janelle Williams scored 24 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead West Virginia State to a 75-72 win over Shepherd University in WVIAC women’s basketball action at West Virginia State on Saturday.

Basketball doubleheader action originally scheduled for last night at Shepherd between Alderson-Broaddus and Shepherd University has been rescheduled for Monday, January 2 at the Butcher Center. The women's game will begin at 6 p.m. followed by the men's contest at 8 p.m.

Shepherd University head women’s basketball coach Melanie Ford announced today that five student-athletes have signed letters-of-intent to play basketball for the Rams in the 2011-12 season.

Twenty-five Shepherd University WVIAC student-athletes have been selected to the 2010-11 Commissioner's Honor Roll. Qualifying student-athletes are classified as a junior or senior and have obtained a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale at the end of the term of attendance in which the sport was concluded. 

Shepherd University head women’s basketball coach Melanie Ford announced today that Julie Kaufman has been named assistant coach for the Rams. Kaufman replaces Antoinette “Toni” West, who resigned to take a similar position with Dominican University of California.

Senior guard Carrie Saunders (Richmond, VA/Monacan) scored a team-high 22 points and sophomore guard Emily Daniel (Beaver, WV/Shady Spring) added 18 points to lead Shepherd University to an 85-74 win over West Virginia State in WVIAC women’s basketball action at the Butcher Center on Monday night. The Rams recorded their fifth straight win.

The Shepherd University basketball programs will host the annual NCAA men's and women's basketball Take a Kid to the Game day on Saturday, December 18. Doubleheader action against Pitt Johnstown begins at 2 p.m. with the women's game, followed with the men's game at 4 p.m.
