The 2012-13 basketball regular season has come to an end and Shepherd is now into first round conference tournament play. The teams successes this season include the men’s team finishing sixth in the conference with a 15-11 overall mark and the women finishing seventh in the conference with a 13-13 overall record. Both teams went 12-10 in the final season of the WVIAC.

The Mountain East Conference (MEC) announced today that its application for membership has been approved by the NCAA Division II Membership Committee. The MEC will officially become the 25th NCAA Division II conference on Sept. 1, 2013 and immediately assumes active status.

The Shepherd University basketball teams will be hosting Senior Night and Fan Appreciation Day on their final regular season home doubleheader on Wednesday night. The women's team will host Pitt-Johnstown at 6 p.m. and the men's team will face Pitt-Johnstown at 8 p.m. The women will honor five seniors prior to tip-off, while Fan Appreciation Day will celebrated during both contests.

HARLEY (SKEETER) SWIFT TO SPEAK AT SHEPHERD ON TUESDAY (2-7-2012)
Harley "Skeeter" Swift will be coming to speak at Shepherd University at the Erma Ora Byrd Lecture Hall on February 14 at 5 p.m. Swift was an All-American basketball player and Hall of Famer at East Tennessee State and went to play many seasons in the ABA. The event is open to the public and admission is free.

The Shepherd University Women’s Athletic Alliance recently sponsored and hosted a recruiting information session in the Shepherd University Wellness Center on January 28. The session, which was directed to area student athletes in grades 9-12, parents, and coaches, was beneficial in spreading information about specific sports here at Shepherd. It also addressed specific questions about recruiting, financial aid, admissions, and NCAA rules in the recruiting process.

The Shepherd University women's basketball team was honored today by Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) as a member of the 2007-08 Academic Top 25 Team Honor Roll. Shepherd ranked 11th among NCAA II schools with an impressive 3.488 grade point average. This award, given in NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA and Junior College/Community College, awards teams throughout the nation that carry the highest grade point averages (GPA) for the entire season based on the nomination submitted by WBCA-member head coaches.
