SHEPHERD STUDENT-ATHLETES HONORED BY WVIAC (8-3-2010)

Twenty-five Shepherd University student-athletes have been selected to the 2009-10 WVIAC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Qualifying student-athletes are classified as a junior or senior and have obtained a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale at the end of the term of attendance in which the sport was concluded.

SHEPHERD SOFTBALL TO HOLD OPEN TRYOUT (7-25-2010)

The Shepherd University softball program will be hosting an open tryout for any female high school senior graduating during the Academic Year 2010-11. The reserved date will be September 11, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m at Shepherd University Softball Complex. All participants interested in attending will need to RSVP by September 3, 2010.

PITCOCK NAMED ALL-J.A.Y. FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR (7-5-2010)

Junior pitcher/first baseman Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, VA/ParkView) of the Shepherd University softball team has been named the 2009-10 All-J.A.Y. Female Athlete of the Year by The Journal.

PITCOCK GAINS ALL-AMERICAN HONORS (5-26-2010)

Junior pitcher/first baseman Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, VA/Park View) of the Shepherd University softball team was named to the 2010 Daktronics, Inc., All-America softball team. The squad is voted on by sports information directors in NCAA Division II. Pitcock, an honorable mention selection as a utility player, becomes the first Shepherd softball player to receive All-American honors. 

 

PITCOCK, BETTURA GAIN NFCA ALL-REGION ACCOLADES (5-20-2010)

Junior pitcher-first baseman Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, VA/Park View) and sophomore pitcher Tricia Bettura (Canfield, OH/Canfield) of the Shepherd University softball team were named to the 2010 Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) NCAA Division II Atlantic All-Region team. Pitcock and Bettura are the first players in program history to gain NFCA All-Region honors.
PITCOCK GARNERS FIRST TEAM ALL-REGION HONORS (5-19-2010)

Junior pitcher/first baseman Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, VA/Park View) of the Shepherd University softball team was named to the 2010 Daktronics All-Atlantic Region Softball Team. Pitcock becomes the first player in program history to gain first team All-Region honors. She joins Stephanie Sims, a second team selection in 2008, as the program's only All-Region honorees.

Amanda Wallace doubled home Melissa Lupinacci in the bottom of the seventh inning for the game’s only run to lead host California University of Pennsylvania to a 1-0 win over Shepherd University in second round action of the NCAA Atlantic Regional Softball Tournament at Lilly Park on Saturday.
SHEPHERD SOFTBALL DOWNS KUTZTOWN, 8-3; POSTS FIRST REGIONAL WIN IN PROGRAM HISTORY (5-14-2010)

Shepherd University used a 12-hit attack en route to an 8-3 win over Kutztown University in first round action of the NCAA Atlantic Regional Softball Tournament at Lilly Park on Friday. The Rams recorded their first regional win in program history and became just the second WVIAC team (West Virginia Wesleyan) to win a regional softball game.
SHEPHERD SOFTBALL GAINS REGIONAL BID (5-10-2010)

The sixth-seeded Shepherd University softball team will face third-seeded Kutztown University in first day action of the NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Tournament on Friday, May 14 at California University of Pennsylvania at 2:30 p.m.
SHEPHERD SOFTBALL RANKED SIXTH IN REGION (5-5-2010)

Shepherd University remains in sixth place in the Atlantic Region in the latest Division II softball regional polls released today by the NCAA Division II Softball Committee. The top 10 teams in the region are listed in rank order with records as of May 3. Regional tournament selections will be announced at 10 a.m. Eastern time, Monday, May 10 via a webcast selection show on NCAA.com.

Sophomore pitcher Tricia Bettura (Canfield, OH/Canfield) and junior pitcher-first baseman Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, VA/Park View) of the Shepherd University softball team were named first team selections to the 2010 All-WVIAC Softball Team. Junior shortstop Courtni Williams (Charles Town, WV/Musselman), sophomore catcher Kris Durham (Queen Anne, MD/Easton), and freshman outfielder Bianca Biondillo (Canfield, OH/Canfield) were honorable mention selections.

A pair of changes have been made to this week's Shepherd University athletics schedule. The softball doubleheader scheduled for Thursday (March 4) between Washington Adventist and Shepherd University at Washington Adventist has been cancelled. The baseball doubleheader between Washington Adventist and Shepherd slated for Wednesday (March 3) at Fairfax Field has been postponed. No makeup plans have been announced.

Four members of the Shepherd University softball team were selected to the 2009 All-WVIAC team. Sophomore shortstop Courtni Williams (Charles Town, WV/Musselman) and freshman pitcher/first baseman Tricia Bettura (Canfield, OH/Canfield) were second team selections, while senior outfielder Amy Edmondson (Hamilton, VA/Loudoun Valley) and freshman pitcher Erica Snoddy (Salem, OH/Lisbon David Anderson) gained honorable mention honors.

Wheeling Jesuit (17-20, 8-8) swept Shepherd University (22-19, 15-11) in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday. The Cardinals gained a 6-0 win in game one and gained the sweep with a 1-0 win in nine innings in the nightcap.

Freshman pitcher Tricia Bettura (Canfield, OH/Canfield) belted a walk-off solo homer in game one and senior designated player Amanda Orkoskey (Wheeling, WV/Wheeling Central Catholic) smacked a three-homer in the nightcap to lift Shepherd University (22-17, 15-9) to a sweep of Glenville State (19-20, 15-9) in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at Shepherd on Thursday. The Rams gained a 2-1 win in game one and held on for a 4-3 victory in the nightcap.

Shepherd University (20-17) split with Millersville (24-25) in softball doubleheader action at Milllersville on Tuesday. Shepherd gained a 1-0 win in game one, while Millersville took an 8-4 decision in the nightcap.

Shepherd University (19-16, 13-9) swept Davis & Elkins (12-30, 8-10) in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at Davis & Elkins on Sunday. Shepherd gained an 8-0 win in game one and added a 7-2 victory in the nightcap.

West Virginia Wesleyan (31-12, 19-1) swept Shepherd University (17-16, 11-9) in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at Wesleyan on Saturday. The Bobcats earned a 9-0 win in game one and rallied for a 3-2 victory in the nightcap.
SHEPHERD SOFTBALL SWEPT BY FAIRMONT STATE (4-16-2009)

Fairmont State (22-11, 14-4) swept Shepherd University (17-14, 11-7) in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at Fairmont on Thursday afternoon. Heather Shutler tossed a no-hitter in a 4-0 win in game one and the Falcons gained the sweep with an 8-0 win in the nightcap.

Freshman pitcher Tricia Bettura (Canfield, OH/Canfield) tossed a one-hitter in the nightcap to help lead Shepherd University (17-12) to a doubleheader sweep over Columbia Union (4-18) in softball action at Columbia Union on Thursday evening. The Rams took game one with a 1-0 victory and earned a 14-0 win in the nightcap.
A-B SWEEPS SHEPHERD SOFTBALL (4-8-2009)

Mereaha Cooper gained a complete game win in game one and added a save in the nightcap to lead Alderson-Broaddus (15-20, 10-6) to a sweep of Shepherd University (15-12, 11-5) in WVIAC doubleheader softball action at Shepherd on Wednesday. The Battlers held on for a 5-3 win in game one and earned a 7-4 triumph in the nightcap

Sophomore pitcher Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, VA/ Park View) tossed a one-hitter in game one to help lead Shepherd University (15-10, 11-3) to a doubleheader sweep of Ohio Valley (4-30, 0-10) on Senior Day in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at Shepherd on Sunday. The Rams took game one with a 9-0 victory and earned a 4-1 win in the nightcap.

Sophomore third baseman Caitlin Davis (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) belted a grand slam to highlight a five-run first inning in the nightcap to help lift Shepherd University to a 7-3 win to gain a split with University of Charleston in WVIAC softball action at Shepherd on Saturday. Charleston took the opener with a 6-3 victory.

SHEPHERD SOFTBALL DROPS TWO AT SALEM TOURNEY (3-22-2009)

Shepherd University dropped a pair of games to nationally ranked teams in softball action at the Salem Tournament on Sunday. Kutztown, ranked 11th in the latest NFCA NCAA II poll, handed the Rams a 5-2 setback, while No.6-ranked California (Pa.) (16-2) earned a 9-3 victory.

 

SHEPHERD SOFTBALL WINS PAIR AT TOURNEY (3-21-2009)

Sophomore third baseman Caitlin Davis (Manassas, VA/Osbourn) singled home senior outfielder Rae Johnson (Fredericksburg, VA/Colonial Forge HS) in the bottom of the sixth inning to lift Shepherd University to a 3-2 win over Indiana (Pa.) in softball action at the Salem Tournament on Saturday. The Rams again used late-inning heroics later in the day for a 10-7 win over Mercyhurst in nine innings.
EDINBORO RALLIES PAST SHEPHERD SOFTBALL (3-20-2009)

Dana Webb smacked a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift Edinboro to a 3-2 win over Shepherd University in softball action at the Salem Tournament.

Shepherd University swept Bluefield State in season-opening doubleheader action for the Rams at Shepherd on Saturday. The Rams took a 10-0 win in game one and a 6-0 triumph in the nightcap.
SHEPHERD SOFTBALL PICKED THIRD IN PRESEASON POLL (2-4-2009)

The Shepherd University softball team has been picked third in the 2009 WVIAC Coaches' Preseason Poll. Defending WVIAC regular season champion West Virginia Wesleyan is the overwhelming favorite to capture the 2009 league softball crown. Steve Warner's Bobcats, who have captured 14 of the past 17 WVIAC regular season titles, earned 13 of 15 votes from league's coaches for the top spot.
SHEPHERD ANNOUNCES SWING EVENTS (10-6-2008)

The Shepherd University women’s athletic teams will hold their first S.W.I.N.G. (Shepherd Women Inspiring Networking Growing) event of the 2008-09 year when they host Longaberger Basket Bingo on Oct. 12 at the Shepherdstown Fire Hall. Doors open at 1 p.m. with bingo starting at 2 p.m.
SIMS NAMED TO ALL-REGION TEAM (5-7-2008)

Senior third baseman Stephanie Sims (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg) of the Shepherd University softball team was among the players from 18 different schools who were recognized on the Daktronics, Inc. 2008 All-Great Lakes Region Softball Team in a vote by the region’s sports information directors.
THREE RAMS GAIN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS (5-6-2008)

Three members of the Shepherd University softball team were named to the 2008 All-WVIAC Softball Team. Senior third baseman/pitcher Stephanie Sims (Mt. Airy, MD/Glenelg) was a first team selection, while junior outfielders Amy Edmondson (Hamilton, VA/Loudoun Valley) and Rae Johnson (Fredericksburg, VA/Colonial Forge) were honorable mention choices.

Shepherd University dropped a pair of close games to the University of Charleston in WVIAC doubleheader softball action at Charleston on Friday. The Golden Eagles took advantage of five Ram errors in a 2-1 win in game one and gained the sweep with a 1-0 victory in nine innings in the nightcap.

Shepherd earned a 7-0 win in game one and Alderson-Broaddus answered back in the nightcap with a 7-1 triumph. The games were moved to today because of a forecast for inclement weather on Wednesday.

Junior pitcher Kristie Hurman (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake/Anne Arundel CC) smacked a two-out, bases-loaded double in the bottom of the seventh inning to cap a six-run rally and lift Shepherd University to an 8-7 win over Wheeling Jesuit in the nightcap to give Shepherd a split in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at Shepherd on Sunday. Wheeling Jesuit won the opener with a 3-0 victory.
SHEPHERD SOFTBALL SWEEPS WEST LIBERTY (4-5-2008)

Shepherd University swept West Liberty in WVIAC softball action at Shepherd on Saturday. Shepherd took a 6-5 victory in the opener and used a 17-hit attack in the nightcap to earn a 13-6 win.
SHEPHERD SOFTBALL SPLITS WITH WILMINGTON (4-3-2008)

Shepherd University split a doubleheader with Wilmington College in softball action at Wilmington on Thursday. Wilmington earned a 6-5 victory in the opener, while Shepherd held on for a 7-6 win in the nightcap.
