Shepherd University head softball coach Leslie Lopez will be hosting the Mid-Atlantic Regional of the Junior Day Softball Prospect Camp & Showcase at Shepherd on June 19. This one-day event is for 2014 and 2015 high school graduates only. Coaches from George Washington University, George Mason University, Towson University, University of Hartford, and Susquehanna University will also be instructing. 

Five members of the Shepherd University softball team have been named to the 2013 All-WVIAC Softball team. Sophomore outfielder Tayler Schaefer (Dunkirk, MD/Northern) gained first team honors, while sophomore first baseman Savannah Snyder (Elkton, MD/Padua Academy) was a second team choice. For the past two Mondays student-athletes from the Shepherd University baseball and softball teams began their day not on the practice field or in one of Shepherd’s classrooms. The Shepherd University department of athletics is offering a schedule of low cost sports camps coming up in June and July. Included for girls are volleyball, basketball and softball; boys camps include football, basketball, and baseball plus soccer camps for boys and girls.

The Mountain East Conference (MEC) announced today that its application for membership has been approved by the NCAA Division II Membership Committee. The MEC will officially become the 25th NCAA Division II conference on Sept. 1, 2013 and immediately assumes active status.

Shepherd has been picked to finish fourth in the 2013 WVIAC Softball Coaches' Preseason Poll. West Virginia Wesleyan is the  favorite to win its sixth consecutive WVIAC championship.

The 12 institutions that announced the formation of the Mountain East Conference in August have officially applied for approval to begin competing as the NCAA’s newest Division II conference in 2013-14. The MEC’s formal application, signed by the presidents of all 12 institutions, was hand-delivered to NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis on Friday along with all supporting documentation.

The Division II Athletics Directors Association (D2ADA) recently announced that 12 Shepherd University student-athletes have been named the 2011-12 recipients of the D2ADA Academic Achievement Awards. The Academic Achievement Awards is a program that recognizes the academic accomplishments of student-athletes at the Division II level.

The presidents of eight universities in West Virginia and one in Pennsylvania announced on Monday, June 18, 2012, that they will create a new all-sports athletic conference and seek membership in Division II of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).

The session, which was directed to area student athletes in grades 9-12, parents, and coaches, was beneficial in spreading information about specific sports here at Shepherd. It also addressed specific questions about recruiting, financial aid, admissions, and NCAA rules in the recruiting process.

The 2011 Shepherd University Summer Athletics Sports Camps are in full swing. Several camp opportunities are still available this summer.

Senior pitcher/first baseman Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, VA/Park View) of the Shepherd University softball team was named to the 2011 Daktronics, Inc., All-America softball team. The squad is voted on by sports information directors in NCAA Division II. Pitcock gained honorable mention honors as a utility player for the second consecutive season.

Senior pitcher/first baseman Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, VA/Park View) of the Shepherd University softball team has been named to the 2011 Louisville Slugger/NFCA NCAA Division II All-Atlantic Region team. Pitcock, who earlier gained Daktronics All-Atlantic Region honors, was a first team selection.

Senior outfielder Amber Dudek (Sterling, VA/Park View) and senior pitcher/first baseman Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, VA/Park View) of the Shepherd University softball team were named to the 2011 Daktronics All-Atlantic Region Softball Team. Dudek and Pitcock are both first team honorees.

The Shepherd University department of athletics has announced its upcoming 2011 Summer Athletics Sports Camps. 

Six members of the Shepherd University softball team were named to the 2011 All-WVIAC Softball Team. Senior pitcher/first baseman Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, VA/Park View) and senior outfielder Amber Dudek gained first team honors. Freshman outfielder Jess Mason (Martinsburg, WV/Hedgesville) and junior third baseman Chelsie Oals (Hedgesville, WV/Hedgesville) were second team honorees, while senior infielder Cammie Orlandi (Owings, MD/Northern) and senior catcher Megan Holmes (Inwood, WV/Musselman/Hagerstown CC) gained honorable mention accolades.

Shepherd University was eliminated by West Virginia State at the WVIAC Softball Tournament at Jackson Park on Saturday afternoon. The Yellow Jackets held on for a 3-2 win and advanced to the championship round to face West Virginia Wesleyan.

Shepherd University split a pair of games in second  day action of the WVIAC Softball Tournament at Jackson Park on Friday. The Rams gained a 10-6 win over West Virginia State and dropped a 7-5 decision to West Virginia Wesleyan.

Senior pitcher Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, VA/Park View) went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and a two-run homer to lead Shepherd University to a 9-2 win over Davis & Elkins in first day action of the WVIAC Softball Tournament at Jackson Park late Thursday evening.

Shepherd University director of athletics B.J. Pumroy recently announced several award winners for the 2010-11 year.

 

Shepherd University dropped a doubleheader to Fairmont State in WVIAC softball action at Fairmont on Thursday. The Falcons gained a 3-0 win in game one and added a 4-2 triumph in the nightcap.

Shepherd University swept Glenville State in WVIAC softball action at Shepherd on Wednesday afternoon. The Rams gained a 1-0 win in game one and rallied for a 2-1 triumph in the nightcap.

Shepherd University swept Davis & Elkins in WVIAC softball action at Shepherd on Sunday afternoon. The Rams gained a 3-1 win in game one and added a 4-2 triumph in the nightcap. Shepherd head coach Leslie Lopez (116 career wins) became the program’s winningest coach. She surpasses the old mark of 114 held by Dave Trail.

Shepherd University split a doubleheader with Seton Hill in WVIAC softball action at Seton Hill on Friday. The Rams gained a 6-0 win in game one and dropped a 3-1 decision in the nightcap.

Shepherd University dropped a pair of games to #25 West Virginia Wesleyan in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at West Virginia Wesleyan on Thursday. The Bobcats earned a 6-1 win in game one and added an 8-4 win in the nightcap. Shepherd had its 12-game winning streak snapped.

Senior pitcher Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, VA/Park View) was named WVIAC Pitcher of the Week for her standout performance for the Rams last week. Pitcock gained weekly conference honors for the third time this season.

The Rams recorded a 1-0 win in game one as senior pitcher Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, VA/Park View) picked up both wins to improve to 18-3 on the year

Freshman outfielder Jess Mason (Martinsburg, WV/Hedgesville) singled home junior designated player Delaney Bell (Glen Burnie, MD/Archbishop Spalding) in the bottom of the seventh inning in the nightcap to lift Shepherd University to a 6-5 win over Alderson-Broaddus in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at Shepherd on Wednesday. The Rams recorded a 3-1 win in game one.

Shepherd University head softball coach Leslie Lopez announced several changes to the Shepherd softball schedule. The Rams will travel to West Virginia Wesleyan on April 14 for a 5 p.m. doubleheader and take on Fairmont State at Fairmont on April 19 at 3 p.m. The home doubleheader slated against Millersville on April 19 has been cancelled.

Shepherd University will be holding Meet the Rams Day on Sunday, April 10. Shepherd will host Urbana at 11 a.m. in women's lacrosse, West Virginia State for a 1 p.m. softball doubleheader, and West Liberty for a single nine-inning game at 1 p.m. in baseball.

Sophomore outfielder Tiffany Farmer (Martinsburg, WV/Martinsburg) walked with the bases loaded to plate freshman pinch-runner Jess Mason (Martinsburg, WV/Hedgesville) in the bottom of the eighth inning in game one to lift Shepherd University to a 5-4 win over University of Charleston in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at Shepherd on Sunday. The Rams added a 3-1 win in the nightcap to gain the sweep.

Softball action scheduled for tomorrow between Shepherd University and West Virginia Wesleyan at Wesleyan has been postponed. Rescheduling plans have yet to be announced.

Today's men's tennis match between Hood College and Shepherd University  has been rescheduled  for April 15 at 4 p.m. at Shepherd. Softball doubleheader action slated for April 7 between Alderson-Broaddus and Shepherd University has been moved up to April 6 at Shepherd with a 3 p.m. start.

Shepherd University took a pair of games from Wheeling Jesuit in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at Wheeling on Saturday. The Rams recorded a 3-2 win in game one and added a 9-8 victory in the nightcap. .

Shepherd University swept West Liberty in WVIAC softball doubleheader action at West Liberty on Friday. The Rams posted a 9-6 win in game one and added an 11-0 triumph in the nightcap. Shepherd pounded out 27 hits on the day.

Shepherd University head softball coach Leslie Lopez became the third coach in program history to reach 100 career wins after Shepherd won a pair of games on Friday at the West Virginia Welseyan Tournament in Salem, Va. Lopez now has 101 career wins and joins Dave Cole (109) and Dave Trail (114) as the only Shepherd softball coaches to post 100 wins or more.

The Rams took a 5-4 win in nine innings in game one and outslugged the Hawks, 9-8, in another nine-inning contest in the nightcap. IUP won the opener with an 11-0 victory, while the Rams gained the split with a 9-2 win in the nightcap. Senior pitcher Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, VA/Park View) scattered six hits to improve to 3-1 in the Shepherd win.

Shepherd University scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning in the nightcap to gain a 2-1 win over West Chester and earn a doubleheader split in softball action at Shepherd on Sunday. West Chester took an 8-6 decision in game one.

A few changes have been announced for the upcoming Shepherd sports schedule. Baseball doubleheader action slated for Saturday against Pitt Johnstown at 1 p.m. at Fairfax Field will go on as scheduled. Softball action scheduled for Saturday against West Chester on Saturday has been moved to a noon start on Sunday at Shepherd. Baseball doubleheader action slated for Tuesday, March 1 at 1 p.m. at Fairfax Field has been changed to a single nine-inning game.

Shepherd University split doubleheader softball action with Fayetteville State at Fayetteville State on Sunday. Fayetteville State won the opener with a 3-2 victory, while the Rams gained the split with a 13-0 triumph in the nightcap. Senior pitcher Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, VA/Park View) tossed a one-hitter in the Shepherd win.

Senior catcher Megan Holmes (Inwood, WV/Musselman/Hagerstown CC) went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer and an RBI-double to lead Shepherd University to a 5-2 win in the nightcap in doubleheader softball action at Mount Olive. Mount Olive won the opener with a 4-0 victory.

Shepherd University will be hosting a spring edition Ram Chalk Talk luncheon on Wednesday, February 2 from noon to 1 p.m. at the Shepherd University Wellness Center. Shepherd director of athletics B.J. Pumroy will host head coaches Wayne Riser, Leslie Lopez, and Tammy Butler as they preview baseball, softball, and women's lacrosse. Head coaches Melanie Ford and Justin Namolik will be on hand to provide updates on the Shepherd basketball programs. 

The Shepherd University softball team will be hosting a pair of softball clinics in January. The clinics will take place on January 16 and 23 in 2011. The clinic will feature both a pitching and hitting session.

 

Shepherd University head softball coach Leslie Lopez announced today that four student-athletes have signed letters-of-intent to play softball for the Rams in 2012

The Shepherd University softball team recently held its 50-Inning game fundraiser during practice on October 19, 21, and 22. The total proceeds raised were $1,400.

Twenty-five Shepherd University student-athletes have been selected to the 2009-10 WVIAC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Qualifying student-athletes are classified as a junior or senior and have obtained a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale at the end of the term of attendance in which the sport was concluded.

The Shepherd University softball program will be hosting an open tryout for any female high school senior graduating during the Academic Year 2010-11. The reserved date will be September 11, 2010 from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m at Shepherd University Softball Complex. All participants interested in attending will need to RSVP by September 3, 2010.

Sophomore pitcher Tricia Bettura (Canfield, OH/Canfield) and junior pitcher-first baseman Nichole Pitcock (Sterling, VA/Park View) of the Shepherd University softball team were named first team selections to the 2010 All-WVIAC Softball Team.
