Shepherd University head baseball coach Wayne Riser announced that Clayton Kuklick and Matt McCarty have joined the Shepherd baseball staff as assistant baseball coaches.

SIXTEEN SHEPHERD STUDENT-ATHLETES HONORED BY DIVISION II ADA (8-11-2010)

The Division II Athletics Directors Association (DII ADA) recently announced that 16 Shepherd University student-athletes have been named the 2009-10 recipients of the DII ADA Academic Achievement Awards presented by WeatherPORT.

SHEPHERD STUDENT-ATHLETES HONORED BY WVIAC (8-3-2010)

Twenty-five Shepherd University student-athletes have been selected to the 2009-10 WVIAC Commissioner's Honor Roll. Qualifying student-athletes are classified as a junior or senior and have obtained a 3.3 or higher cumulative GPA on a 4.0 scale at the end of the term of attendance in which the sport was concluded.

SHEPHERD BASEBALL ANNOUNCES RECRUITING CLASS (6-23-2010)

Shepherd University head baseball coach Wayne Riser announced today that 15 student-athletes have signed letters-of-intent to play baseball for the Rams in 2011. Among the group are five players from both Maryland and Virginia, two from Pennsylvania, and one each from California, New York, and West Virginia.

COLLINS NAMED TO ACADEMIC ALL-AMERICA TEAM (5-25-2010)

Junior third baseman Brian Collins (Martinsburg, WV/Jefferson) of the Shepherd University baseball team has been named to the 2010 ESPN The Magazine Academic All-America® Baseball Team as selected by College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Collins was a third team selection.
MINNICH NAMED TO ABCA/RAWLINGS ALL-REGION SQUAD (5-19-2010)

Sophomore first baseman (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) of the Shepherd University baseball team was named to 2010 ABCA/Rawlings Atlantic All-Region team. Minnich gained second team honors.

Sophomore first baseman Nathan Minnich (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) and junior third baseman Brian Collins (Martinsburg, WV/Jefferson/Frederick CC) of the Shepherd University baseball team were named to 2010 National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II All-Atlantic Region team. Minnich was a first team selection, while Collins garnered second team accolades.

Six members of the Shepherd University baseball team were named to the 2010 All-WVIAC Team tonight. Sophomore first baseman Nathan Minnich (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) was the lone first team choice. Senior pitcher Kenny Reisinger (Ickesburg, PA/West Perry, PA) and junior third baseman Brian Collins (Martinsburg, WV/Jefferson/Frederick CC) were second team selections, while senior pitcher Gerard Sokolis (Essex, MD/Anne Arundel CC), senior catcher Anthony Jackson (Belcamp, MD/Aberdeen/Anne Arundel CC), and senior pitcher Pat Smith (Ashville, PA/North County {MD}) were accorded honorable mention honors.
SHEPHERD BASEBALL ENDS SEASON WITH 7-4 WIN OVER SHIPPENSBURG (4-20-2010)

Shepherd University ended the 2010 season with a 7-4 win over Shippensburg in baseball action at Fairchild Field on Tuesday afternoon. Shepherd broke a 3-3 tie with three runs in the sixth inning to pull away for the victory.

Senior pitcher Pat Smith (Ashville, PA/North County{MD}) of the Shepherd University baseball team was named WVIAC Co-Pitcher of the Week for his standout play for the Rams last week. He shared the honors with Noah Mull of Wheeling Jesuit.

Shepherd University swept Seton Hill in WVIAC baseball action at Fairfax Field on Sunday afternoon. Shepherd gained a 2-1 win in game one and added a 7-2 triumph in the nightcap.

Senior pitcher Pat Smith (Ashville, PA/North County {MD}) tossed a complete game one-hitter in the nightcap to give Shepherd a split with Seton Hill in WVIAC baseball action at Fairfax Field on Saturday afternoon. The Griffins gained a 5-1 win in game one, while the Rams had a 1-0 triumph in the nightcap.

Senior designated hitter Tyler Beard (Hagerstown, MD/Williamsport/Hagerstown CC) walked with the bases loaded to plate junior third baseman Brian Collins (Martinsburg, WV/Jefferson/Frederick CC) in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift Shepherd University to a 4-3 win over Shippensburg in baseball action at Fairfax Field on Wednesday afternoon.

Sophomore first baseman Nathan Minnich (Waynesboro, PA/Waynesboro) of the Shepherd University baseball team has been named WVIAC Player of the Week for his stellar play for the Rams last week.

Shepherd University split a doubleheader with Wheeling Jesuit in WVIAC baseball action at Wheeling on Sunday afternoon. The Cardinal recorded a 4-2 win in game one, while Shepherd answered back in the nightcap with a 23-14 victory.
SHEPHERD BASEBALL SWEEPS WHEELING JESUIT (4-10-2010)

Shepherd University scored 29 runs on the day en route to a doubleheader sweep of Wheeling Jesuit in WVIAC baseball action at Wheeling on Saturday afternoon. The Rams gained a 13-2 win in game one and added a 16-8 triumph in the nightcap.

The Shepherd University baseball program will be hosting an alumni reception in the final homestand for the Rams. Shepherd will host a a reception for former players and friends of the baseball program at Fairfax Field on Saturday, Aptil 17 at noon prior to the 1 p.m. doubleheader against Seton Hill.

Concord University, ranked 30th in the latest Collegiate Baseball Division II Poll, used a 13-hit attack en route to an 11-3 win over Shepherd University in WVIAC baseball action at Anderson Field on Friday afternoon. 
SHEPHERD BASEBALL DROPS PAIR AT CONCORD (4-1-2010)

Concord University swept Shepherd University in WVIAC doubleheader baseball action at Anderson Field on Thursday afternoon. The Mountain Lions outslugged the Rams for a 12-9 win in game one and added a 14-6 victory in the nightcap.
UPJ SWEEPS SHEPHERD BASEBALL (3-28-2010)

Pitt Johnstown swept Shepherd University in WVIAC doubleheader baseball action at Fairfax Field on Sunday. UPJ took a 5-2 victory in game one and added 3-1 win in the nightcap in a rain-shortened contest to gain the sweep.

Former Shepherd University pitcher Charlie Gordon (Pasadena, MD/Chesapeake/Anne Arundel CC) has signed a professional baseball contract with the Normal CornBelters of the Frontier League. Gordon earned WVIAC Pitcher of the Week honors while at Shepherd and was a member of the WVIAC championship team in 2009.

Shepherd University rallied with a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh inning of game one to earn an 8-7 win over Washington Adventist in baseball action at Fairfax Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Shock used a four-run rally in the sixth inning to tie the game and added two more runs in the seventh to gain the split with an 8-6 victory in the nightcap.

SPRING SPORTS SCHEDULE CHANGES (3-1-2010)

A pair of changes have been made to this week's Shepherd University athletics schedule. The softball doubleheader scheduled for Thursday (March 4) between Washington Adventist and Shepherd University at Washington Adventist has been cancelled. The baseball doubleheader between Washington Adventist and Shepherd slated for Wednesday (March 3) at Fairfax Field has been postponed. No makeup plans have been announced.

Shepherd University, seeded third in the Atlantic Region, has been named by the NCAA Division II Baseball Committee as one of 48 teams that will participate in the 2009 NCAA Division II Baseball Championship. Second-seeded Kutztown University will host the Atlantic Regionals with play slated to begin on Thursday. The Rams will face fourth-seeded Mercyhurst in opening day action on Thursday.

Pitt-Johnstown has made changes to this weekend's home baseball schedule against Shepherd University due to weather concerns. Shepherd is now slated to take on Pitt-Johnstown in a four-game WVIAC series on Friday and Saturday. Friday's doubleheader will begin at 4 p.m. at Johnstown's Point Stadium. Saturday's games will start at 1 p.m.

The Shepherd University baseball team has been chosen to finish second in the WVIAC Northern Division in the annual WVIAC Coaches'  Poll. Southern Division archrivals West Virginia State and Concord are the most popular choices to claim the 2009 WVIAC baseball title. Defending champion West Virginia State earned six votes to win the conference overall title, while Concord grabbed three first place nods.

The Shepherd University Athletic Hall of Fame will induct five new members this fall at the annual induction banquet on Friday, September 19 at the Clarion Hotel and Conference Center in Shepherdstown. The quintet will also be honored at the Shepherd-Fairmont State football game on Saturday, September 20 as part of Hall of Fame Weekend festivities.

Senior first baseman Dirk Webb (Falling Waters, WV/Hedgesville) of the Shepherd University baseball team was named to the 2008 Rawlings/ABCA All-American Team. Webb, who earlier was named Regional Co-Player of the Year by the ABCA, was a third team selection.
