MOORE SCORES 47; BUT OHIO VALLEY MEN PREVAIL, 107-103 (2-18-2012)
VIENNA, W.Va. – Junior forward Chad Moore (Winchester, VA/John Handley) scored a game and career-high 47 points, but Ohio Valley held on for a 107-103 win over Shepherd University in WVIAC men’s basketball action at Ohio Valley on Saturday.
Moore connected on 16-of-25 shots from the floor with a 1-of-2 effort from three-point range. He was 14-of-15 from the foul line. He also added game-highs of nine rebounds and four steals.
Sophomore guard Brantley Osborne (Sunbury, PA/Shikellamy) tossed in 21 points, while junior forward Sidney McCray (Milton, FL/St. Pauls (MD) School) added 18 points and seven boards.
Kendall Allison and Austin Cunningham each had 26 points to lead the Fighting Scots. Jordan Brooks added 16 points and a game-high 13 assists.
The Fighting Scots took a 49-46 lead into halftime behind 12 points each from Allison and Rodney Everage.
Shepherd rallied to within two points at 105-103 after a pair of free throws by Moore with 25 seconds remaining in the game. Ohio Valley hit on 2-of-4 free throws down the stretch to cap the win.
Shepherd hit on 48 percent (36-75) of its shots from the floor with a 38.5 percent (10-26) effort from three-point range.
The Rams hit 21-of-24 foul shots (87.5 percent).
Ohio Valley shot 58.5 percent (38-65) from the floor with a 50 percent (9-18) performance from beyond the arc. The Fighting Scots connected on 22-of-28 foul shots (78.6 percent).
The Rams had a 32-29 edge on the boards.
Shepherd falls to 12-13, 10-11 in WVIAC action, while Ohio Valley improves to 7-16, 7-13. The Rams return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Davis & Elkins for a 7:30 p.m. contest.
